Pope heads to Jordan for first leg of Middle East trip

Pope Benedict XVI headed to Jordan on Friday where he was expected to meet King Abdullah II and Queen Rania on the first leg on his Middle East trip.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, the Palestinian Authority scrapped plans to receive Benedict next week on a stage next to the West Bank security barrier.
Palestinian lawmaker Essa Qaraqie said the committee organizing the West Bank portion of the visit moved the location to a United Nations school inside the camp "after huge Israeli pressure." The pope's convoy will still pass next to the wall, which can be seen from inside the school courtyard, Qaraqie said.
