'Times': UK re-establishes high-level intelligence links with Syria

Britain re-established high-level intelligence links with Syria as the country's foreign secretary, David Miliband, was in Damascus for a landmark visit, Wednesday's Times quoted Syrian officials as saying. The move was first discussed earlier this year during a New York meeting between Miliband and his Syria counterpart, Walid Moallem, said the paper. "Miliband asked Moallem in New York whether he could re-establish intelligence links at a senior level" after lower level contacts, a Syrian official was quoted as saying by the British newspaper, adding that Moallem invited Miliband to take intelligence officials with him to Damascus.
