UN approves 360 Malaysian peacekeepers to Lebanon
The United Nations has approved the deployment of 360 Malaysian peacekeepers to Lebanon, Malaysian leader Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Wednesday, according to the national news agency Bernama.
Abdullah, who was in New York to attend the UN General Assembly, reported the approved deployment during a briefing for Malaysian journalists there, Bernama reported.
Malaysian had offered to send as many as 1,000 troops to Lebanon.
Under a UN-brokered cease-fire following fighting between Israel and Hizbullah, as many as 15,000 peacekeepers are to deploy to southern Lebanon.
