UN envoy calls Gaza situation alarming

UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Robert Serry called the situation in Gaza "alarming" after he visited the area Thursday and met with colleagues and businessmen. Serry called on Israel to allow more fuel, cash and building materials into Gaza so that repairs could be done on the buildings that were damaged and destroyed during the war there in January. "Time is passing and there is no real progress. Tens of thousands of Gazans whose homes were hit in the conflict now face a sweltering summer in unacceptable circumstances without proper shelter," Serry said.
