White House: Mubarak cancels US visit due to grandson's death

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has canceled his visit to the United States after his 12-year-old grandson died, the White House said Wednesday. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said that US President Barack Obama and Mubarak would instead meet next month when the US president visits Egypt. Gibbs says Obama and his family offered their condolences to the Mubaraks. The Egyptian presidency said Mubarak's grandson, Mohammed Mubarak, passed away Monday after a "health crisis lasting two days." The 81-year-old president is believed to be grooming his son, Gamal, to succeed him.
