Israel and the US are “exactly on the same side” in efforts to combat the Iranian threat, former Military Intelligence chief Maj.-Gen. (res.) Amos Yadlin told ahead of the second annual Jerusalem Post Conference, which takes place on Sunday in New York City.
“We’re facing many of the same threats – al-Qaida, Iranian nukes,” said Yadlin, director of the Institute for National Security Studies at Tel Aviv University.
On Tuesday, he made waves when he announced at an institute conference that “if Iran continues toenrich uranium at its current rate, toward the end of the year it will cross the red line in a clear manner.”
He is likely to address the subject of Iran’s nuclear plans during his speech at the Post conference before a capacity crowd at the Marriot Marquis Hotel in Times Square.
Yadlin will also appear on a panel – “The Generals Forum – How Will Israel Answer Threats from Iran, Syria, Lebanon and Gaza?” – along with former IDF chief of staff Lt.-Gen. (res.) Gabi Ashkenazi, former Mossad director Meir Dagan, former National Security Adviser Uzi Arad and US Marine Corps Gen. (ret.) Robert Magnus.
International Relations Minister Yuval Steinitz will represent the government at the conference and will appear on a panel called “Two States for Two Peoples” with Arad, Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz and Post Senior Contributing Editor Caroline Glick.
Like last year, the keynote speaker at the conference – entitled “Fighting for the Zionist Dream” – will be former prime minister Ehud Olmert. Dagan, Glick and Ambassador to the US Michael Oren will address the audience as well.
Moderating the conference’s closing panel discussion – “Israel’s Energy Potential” – will be Efraim Chalamish. Panelists will include Steinitz, Ashkenazi, Dagan, Yossi Abu and Binyamin Zomer.
Rona Ramon, the widow of Israeli astronaut Col. Ilan Ramon, will receive an award of honor at the conference, as will Efi Stenzler, chairman of Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund.
The Post’s website – www.jpost.com – will host a live blog from the conference, with reporters Gil Hoffman, Michael Wilner and Sam Sokol tweeting and posting regularly.
The final few tickets for the conference may be purchased via [email protected], or by calling 1-888-576-7881 toll free in the US or 972-2-531-5439 from other countries.
