3 NCOs arrested on suspicion of illegally selling IDF weapons

Three non-commissioned officers were arrested on suspicion of intending to sell IDF weapons, police and Military Police said Sunday.The weapons included grenades, explosive bricks and LAW shoulder-launched missiles.According to a Military Police investigation, the soldiers stole the weapons from a bunker in the South, and had planned on selling them on the black market.“This is a lone incident in which we exposed the involvement of three non-commissioned officers in the theft of weapons before they could pass it on to outside elements,” a senior army source said. “They are currently under arrest, and are being questioned. The suspects have no criminal past or background.”Military Police has stepped up efforts recently to combat theft of weapons and their sale to criminals. The campaign to prevent such thefts is known as PED – prevention, exposure and deterrence.“This is a marginal phenomenon, involving a few people,” the source said. “I see the will of commanders to protect weapons as much as possible.”
