Six people were killed in a fire that broke out in southern Rehovot on Monday night.
Emergency services said the victims were a man and his five children, who became trapped in their 1.5-room apartment on the city’s Najara Street.
Large numbers of fire trucks, ambulances and police vehicles arrived on the scene, police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.
“An investigation has been launched into the cause of the blaze,” Rosenfeld said.
The police spokesman said that all of the children were under the age of 12.
According to Israel Radio, the mother of the children managed to escape and call emergency services. Rescue services and police are continuing to search the site for additional victims.
The emergency services declared the area to be the scene of a mass-casualty incident.
