A-G orders fresh investigation into Harpaz document

Weinstein asks investigators to see if criminal offenses were carried out; police had earlier decided Harpaz was responsible for forgery.

Police and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) have been ordered by Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein to launch a fresh investigation into the Harpaz document affair.
Lt.-Col. (res.) Boaz Harpaz, a former intelligence army officer, is suspected of forging a document containing plans to damage reputations of senior IDF officers in a bid to promote OC Southern Command Maj.-Gen. Yoav Galant¹s candidacy to become IDF chief of general staff. The forged document was falsely printed on paper bearing the logo of the Arad
Communications public relations firm.

In September, police announced that Harpaz forged the document on his own, marking the end of an investigation that rocked the senior echelons of the defense community.
Weinstein has asked the police and Shin Bet to reexamine the case to see if criminal offenses had been carried out.
A media ban has been placed by a court on details of the new investigation.
