Cops use indictment figures to counter outcry over mob violence

Over 200 indictments have been made since January 2012 against alleged underworld figures arrested for serious crimes.

Over 200 indictments have been made since January 2012 against alleged underworld figures arrested for serious crimes, a quick look at statistics for the past year reveals.
One of the names that sticks out is Moti Hassin, acting head of the Abergil crime family, who was indicted in March 2012 for ordering the “red riding hood-style” killings that year of Avi David and Yitzhak Geffen. The two had left the organization to link up with rival crime families after its leader, Itzhak Abergil, was sentenced to eight years in prison in 2012.
Another is Yussef Hariri, head of the Arab-Israeli al- Hariri crime family from the Sharon, who was indicted in September 2012 on weapons and conspiracy charges and remains in custody.
The indictments also cover the Central District’s flagship “La Familia” case from January 2013, when 14 members of the Abdel Kader crime family from Taiba were indicted on a series of charges involving organized crime, as well as the Lachish subdistrict’s indictment in September 2012 of brothers Maor and Dudu Megidish, former Abergil associates who ran their own crime family and stand accused of a plot to kill mobster Shalom Domrani.
Police officials have pointed at such figures on a number of occasions over the past couple of weeks in order to highlight what they said is their continued success in fighting organized crime despite a public outcry over a number of highprofile mob hits in the South and Center.
