Twenty teams of firefighters were attempting to gain control of a large brush fire that was burning near Kibbutz Yasur in the Western Galilee Friday afternoon. Crews from JNF-KKL and four water-dropping planes were assisting in the effort.
Dozens of residents from Kibbutz Yasur and elderly residents of a local retirement home were evacuated.  Four people were treated by Magen David Adom and evacuated to hospital with light injuries from smoke inhalation.
Local residents were asked to close their windows, remain indoors and listen for evacuation orders.
Road 70 was closed to traffic between the Ahihud and Yavor Junctions.
Magen David Adom announced that it had raised its readiness to the highest possible level. Large numbers of MDA paramedics were dispatched to assist in the evacuation of senior citizens.
