Former Nazareth deputy mayor Ali Salam beats incumbent again

Salam, a Muslim, received 27,666 votes and Jaraisy, a Christian, received 17,266 and 38% of the vote.

Former Nazareth Deputy Mayor Ali Salam beat incumbent Ramiz Jaraisy (Hadash) in the city’s mayoral revote with 62 percent of the ballots.
Salam, a Muslim, received 27,666 votes and Jaraisy, a Christian, received 17,266 and 38% of the vote. Turnout was high at around 84% on Tuesday.
The original vote in October, which the Supreme Court canceled because of fraud, gave a narrow victory to Salam. Then, Salam received 16,331 votes to Jaraisy’s 16,308.
Ghada Zoabi, founder and CEO of the Israeli-Arab news portal Bokra, told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday evening that the Balad party, of former mayoral candidate MK Haneen Zoabi, as well as the Islamic Movement in Israel, had thrown their support behind Salam.
