Hundreds take to streets for 2nd Tel Aviv 'SlutWalk'

Demonstrators march through Israel's cultural capital for second consecutive year in protest of violence against women.

Hundreds of demonstrators marched on the streets of Tel Aviv on Friday afternoon for the second consecutive year in protest of violence against women in the now world famous “Mitzad Sharmuta” (SlutWalk).
Demonstrators paraded the streets, shouting slogans such as “My body is mine alone,” and “no gender, no hierarchy, we’re putting down patriarchy!” SlutWalk has become a worldwide movement, working to challenge mindsets and stereotypes of victim-blaming and slut-shaming. One protester at the parade said around a quarter of those marching were men (some wearing skirts).
The Tel Aviv protest will be followed by a similar event in Haifa, according to the Facebook page of the march. “Being assaulted isn’t about what you wear; it’s not even about sex; but using a pejorative term to rationalize inexcusable behavior creates an environment in which it’s okay to blame the victim,” the page stated.
The demonstration was inspired by a group of Canadian women who held the SlutWalk protest two years ago in response to a male police officer’s comment that if women want to avoid being attacked they should not dress like sluts.
