IBA panel to search for new director-general

Two months before Moti Sklaar is sue to exit, IBA approves panel to find his successor.

With just over two months left before Israel Broadcasting Authority director-general Moti Sklaar’s term ends, the IBA plenum on Monday unanimously approved a committee of head hunters who will look for a suitable candidate to succeed him.
The committee is headed by IBA chairman Amir Gilat, who took over ministerial responsibility for the broadcasting authority following the resignation of Yuli Edelstein.
The other members of the committee are Yoel Horovitz, who is a member of the IBA administrative board, Dr. Aviad Hacohen, dean of Shaarei Mishpat Academic College, civil service commissioner Moshe Dayan and actress Yona Elian.
The committee will meet soon to establish the guidelines under which it will operate.
One issue it will deal with is the work-compatibility of the potential candidate within the IBA. Gilat’s predecessor Moshe Gavish resigned in June 2009, soon after Edelstein’s appointment.
The reason given at the time was his reservations about the IBA’s inability to carry out reforms.
Gavish’s deputy, Dorit Inbar, resigned a week later, and Doron Zabari, a member of management, resigned at the same time.
A few months later Edelstein resigned because the cabinet had not approved businessman and former civil servant Amnon Dick, who had been Edelstein’s choice for IBA chairman. The matter had been left in limbo for five months until Dick took the initiative and withdrew his candidacy.
