A Beersheba man is suspected of beating his wife to death with a hammer while she slept in the couple's house in the city Friday night, while he was under the influence of alcohol, Negev subdistrict police said.
The man was found at the scene with his clothes covered in blood, and reportedly told arresting police of his wife that “I'm sick of her.”
Police and paramedics had been called to the scene on Yerushalayim street in the city, after the couple's son called to tell police that his father had killed his mother. Paramedics who arrived at the scene found the woman lying motionless in the apartment with signs of extreme violence on her body, and had no choice but to pronounce her dead at the scene.
Negev sub district police said that in 2011 there was a domestic violence complaint issued against the husband and that he was indicted for a domestic violence charge. Since then however, no complaints have been issued against them and there have been no incidents of violence involving the couple, police said.
On Saturday evening the man was arraigned at the Beersheba Magistrate's Court. Police said that the case is currently being handled by the Negev special investigative unit and Be'ersheba police.
