Three days after two young men from Rehovot’s Kiryat Moshe neighborhood were shot and seriously wounded by an unidentified gunman, police are still grasping for leads.
The two men were standing under a building when they were shot in Kiryat Moshe, an area struggling with social deprivation and youth violence.
Police say they still do not know if the shots were fired from a gunman on foot, or whether it was a drive-by shooting. Both men were rushed to the city’s Kaplan Medical Center. One man continues to be in critical condition, and the second is in moderate condition.
Meanwhile, police in Kiryat Malachi arrested an soldier on suspicion of using his military-issued firearm to intimidate a second man during a dispute.
According to police, the soldier, who was home on leave, fired a round into the floor during an altercation with a 21-year-old man. The soldier is under arrest, while a second suspect described by police as his accomplice is under house arrest.
The firearm allegedly used in the incident has been seized by police.
