Traffic Police revokes license of 250 drivers over weekend

Hundreds of police officers and volunteers took up undercover and overt positions during the enforcement operation, which was held throughout the country.

The Traffic Police revoked the licenses of 250 motorists over the weekend as part of an increased drive to stamp out driving offenses that endanger lives on the road.
Hundreds of police officers and volunteers took up undercover and overt positions during the enforcement operation, which was held throughout the country on Friday and Saturday.
One hundred and fifty vehicles were impounded during the operation as well.
In one case, a resident of Hod Hasharon, 18, was caught driving on Route 87 near the Golan driving at 182 kilometers an hour on a section of the road which, according to the law, has an 80 kilometer per hour speed limit.
The driver told police he did not notice the speed he was traveling at, and pleaded with officers not to revoke his license, as “this will ruin my summer vacation before I get drafted.” “We revoked his license for a period of one month on the spot because of his dangerous driving, so that he’ll get to the army healthy and in one piece,” the Traffic Police said.
The driver will have to appear at a traffic court next month.
Over 100 drunk drivers were taken off the road over the weekend, police said. In Tel Aviv, a 33-year-old resident of Ramle was pulled over and checked for alcohol near the Hashalom intersection on the Ayalon freeway. He was found to have twice the amount of blood-alcohol level allowed by the law. A police check found he had been caught driving drunk two years ago.
He was arrested for four days pending a traffic court appearance “due to the danger he poses,” police said.
A 25-year-old resident of Dir al-Asad was found driving in the North with four times the legal amount of alcohol in his blood stream. He was arrested on the spot.
