Two men struck by passenger train, killed near Hadera
Police say an ATV carrying a 28-year-old man and his 55-year-old father-in-law became stranded on the rail line.

A train struck and killed two people who were attempting to dislodge their all-terrain vehicle (ATV) from railroad tracks between Hadera and Emek Hefer on Monday.Police said an ATV carrying a 28-year-old man and his 55-year-old father-in-law became stranded on the tracks.As they attempted to break free, a north-bound train struck the vehicle, killing the men immediately. According to police reports, the train slammed on its emergency breaks and skidded for 750 meters before slamming into the ATV.Magen David Adom paramedics who were mobilized to the scene of the accident said what they saw was difficult to bear.Police believe that a second ATV accompanying the first vehicle managed to cross the tracks successfully.The deadly crash led to a cancellation of trains on Monday evening on the main Haifa to Tel Aviv line, a central artery for train traffic.The Israel Police has in recent years attempted to clamp down on illegal and dangerous use of ATVs. Traffic police have used helicopter units to track down ATV drivers doing dangerous stunts.
