Twelve people were bitten by a wolf who was likely stricken with rabies in the Tiberias area in northern Israel on Friday. The wolf was tracked down by employees and volunteers of the Nature Authority and was shot dead.

The female wolf was shot while she was attempting to bite volunteers who were trying to capture her near Kibbutz Ginosar that is next to the Sea of Galilee.

The animal’s body was sent for veterinary examination at the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Ministry of Health called for anyone who had contact with the wolf to go to the hospital for examination. Army Radio reported that the attacked individuals received treatment for rabies.
