More than a quarter of a century ago, Israel came under a new threat from the east as Saddam Hussein lashed out at the United States' closest ally in the Middle East with a barrage of Scud missiles.
This picture was taken as Israeli civilians took shelter in their home with gas masks, fearing Saddam would unleash his store of chemical weapons on the Jewish state. It is a snapshot symbolizing that Israel is in a tough neighborhood and its civilians have persevered and thrived while surrounded by near constant threats at its doorstep.
