The late night impersonator asked for help to convert to Judaism: “Here’s the deal, I want to convert to Judaism. Can you help me out?” The rabbi welcomed "David Letterman" and offered to help him find the most “sane, efficient, and loving” method for conversion. Hilarity ensued.
The rabbi said was a fan of David Letterman, so he understood that David was a comedian even if he was unaware it was only an impersonator. “I loved you when you were on…,” referring to "Light Night with David Letterman."
In the spirit of the moment, the rabbi answered the joking question with the comedic timing of a seasoned entertainer. Evil Dave gave an image of gefilte fish that most people would find disgusting, but the rabbi just laughed and agreed.The question of the circumcision decidedly defined the tone of the whole conversation. Evil Dave, in protest, said, “I need little bit more, not a little bit less...” and screamed out in pain as he pretended to complete his own procedure before hanging up. Evil Dave left the rabbi crying from laughter.
Howard Stern was surprised by the level headed rabbi, and said that he wished he were that cool.
