Matthew Gould bids farewell
Matthew Gould, the United Kingdom's first ever Jewish ambassador to Israel, is concluding his five-year term as the envoy for Her Majesty's Government.
The grandson of Polish Jewish immigrants, Gould fostered extensive ties and relationships with Israeli officials throughout the ideological spectrum.
Gould and his wife, Celia, gave birth to their two children in Israel.
Prior to his posting in Tel Aviv, Gould was deputy chief of mission in Iran.
He once told The Jerusalem Post that he and his wife chose Israel “because it mattered to us personally; because it’s a fabulous country in which to live; and a fabulous place in which to raise a family.”
