Rocket barrages hit Israel from Beersheba to Tel Aviv area

Rockets from Gaza were fired at various areas of Israel on Tuesday night including in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area.A rocket was fired from the Gaza Strip at Beit Shemesh and rocket alert sirens wailed in the Jerusalem hills on Tuesday evening at around 8:30 p.m., for the first time in recent days. Four rockets were intercepted over Beersheba and five more landed in open areas around Beersheba after sirens blared in the city and surrounding areas later on Tuesday at around 9:30 p.m. At around 10:15 Rocket alert siren wailed in the Tel Aviv area, the Shfela area and in Ashdod.The Iron Dome rocket defense system intercepted one rocket over the Tel Aviv metropolitan area in the barrage. Two more landed in open areas between Ashkelon and Ashdod.The rocket barrage came shortly after a message by Hamas's shadowy military commander Mohammad Deif stating that Hamas would agree to no ceasefire without a complete lifting of the blockade on Gaza.At 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning a rocket siren in the greater Tel Aviv area caught residents still in bed. One rocket fell in an open area of Rishon Lezion and a second rocket fell in an unspecified location. A third rocket was intercepted over Ashdod. This was the first time in the 22 days of Operation Protective Edge that rocket sirens sounded in the Tel Aviv area in the middle of the night. Economy Minister Naftali Bennett said on Tuesday that Israel needed to leave the current operation in Gaza with a clear victory.Bennett added that Israel must not just "try its best," but to end Operation Protective edge with a "decisive victory."
