Insp.-Gen. warns of organized crime threat

"Organized crime presents a strategic threat to the citizens of Israel," said Inspector-General Moshe Karadi, speaking at the annual summary meeting of the Southern Regional Command. "The serious and unusual incidents of the past year with regard to violence and the arming of organized crime groups have significantly damaged the public's sense of security," Karadi told Army Radio. "We have a central role in restoring this damaged sense of security." Regarding recent events in Amona, Karadi said that it is possible that there were exceptional cases, which should be investigated by the appropriate authority.
