Livni: With all due respect, I didn't come to Egypt to seek OK for Gaza op

At the completion of her visit to Cairo Thursday, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said "with all due respect" that she had not traveled to Egypt seeking authority for a military operation in Gaza, nor did she wish to put Cairo in the position of giving such permission. She said the purpose of her visit was to clarify to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak that the situation in the South is intolerable. During the meeting, Mubarak voiced worry about an escalation in the Strip, and hope for restraint from both sides. Livni added that she believed it was up to the government of Israel to protect its citizens.
