New discount for retirees' drugs
Judy Siegel-Itzkovich
03/01/2006
The government decision applies to medications included in the basket of health services.
People over the age of 65 - who are most likely to suffer from chronic illnesses that require medications - will be eligible for a 10 percent discount on copayments for drugs starting today, the Health Ministry has announced. The government decision applies to medications included in the basket of health services and provided by the health funds. The discount is offered to every elderly person who does not already receive another discount for drugs for other reasons, such as having spent more than the quarterly "ceiling" for drugs for chronic illnesses. The discount will be in force until the special allocation of NIS 35 million runs out, the ministry said.
