A Double “Mitzva”
Covering the Sukkah and Preventing Damage to Trees - For Free!
KKL-JNF’s struggle against the illegal chopping down of trees is an endless war, fought day after day.  Now, with the end of summer in view, more and more trees are being felled as people stock up for winter heating fuel.  And, moreover, this is the time of year when one of the main reasons that trees are being hacked is to acquire thatch for sukkot roofs.  Not only does this damage the trees and their natural environment, it also entails a safety risk for the many people who go to enjoy the forests during the Sukkot festival.

In order to prevent even more trees being felled, KKL-JNF’s forest rangers invite the entire public to come to KKL-JNF’s distribution point and take the schach (thatch) they require – free, no charge, welcome!

KKL-JNF will be distributing thatch branches in the Ben Shemen Forest, between the Sport and Dan rest areas, entrance from the direction of the Maccabee Graves, on Monday and Tuesday, September 20-21, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.  Appropriate guidance signs will be hung for direction.  This is a very central pickup point, reachable from many localities.  So Israelis can have the satisfaction of performing a double “mitsva” – to cover their sukkot and prevent damage to trees – free!
