Hap Haifa holds Mac TA
Maccabi Tel Aviv squander golden opportunity to climb to top of Premier League standings, drawing 0-0 with Hapoel Haifa at Kiryat Eliezer Stadium.
Maccabi Tel Aviv squandered a golden opportunity to climb to the top of the Premier League standings on Monday night, drawing 0-0 with Hapoel Haifa at Kiryat Eliezer Stadium.

A victory for Tel Aviv would have seen it overtake current leader Maccabi Haifa on goal difference, but the yellowand- blue was poor throughout Monday’s encounter and could have very well lost the match had goalkeeper Liran Strauber not come up with a couple of stunning saves late in the game.

“We are disappointed with the result,” Maccabi manager Avi Nimni said. “We had a good chance to move to first position, but that is history now, and hopefully we will be able to go top in the coming weeks.”

Maccabi’s best chance of the first half came in the 32nd minute, when Haris Medunjanin released a dangerous effort from the edge of the box which was well saved by Tvertko Kale.

The second half also produced very little, until the 78th minute.

A good Hapoel move ended with the ball at the feet of Ran Abukarat, but Strauber somehow kept out the ball with his outstretched right hand.

Tel Aviv’s ’keeper would come up with another great save four minutes into stoppage time, blocking Golan Hermon’s powerful shot to at least ensure the visitors returned home with one point.
