Or Yarok: Vehicle being impounded deters traffic offenses
By JPOST.COM STAFF

In a survey by road safety advocacy group Or Yarok, 56 percent of the public believes that the prospect of their vehicle being impounded personally deters them from committing traffic offenses.

In 2009, police impounded about 11,600 vehicles, a majority of which were a result of drivers without a license or drunk driving.

According to Or Yarok, residents of the Sharon region fear the measure more than residents in any other region in the country. The percentage of drivers aware of the law is identical in almost all regions in Israel, except for Jerusalem, where drivers are less aware of the state's right to impound a vehicle.
