Abdullah: End Israeli 'aggression'
07/26/2006
Jordan sends field hospital and medical aid to treat the wounded in Lebanon.
King Abdullah II has called for an immediate cease-fire in Lebanon and the Palestinian territories, Jordan's official Petra news agency said. The king made the call during a meeting on Wednesday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Amman. Abdullah renewed his support for the Palestinian and Lebanese people in "these difficult circumstances." He also pledged to "employ all of Jordan's capabilities to reach a cease-fire" and reduce suffering "due to the continued Israeli aggression." IDF aircraft and artillery fire in Gaza on Wednesday killed 14 Palestinians - including at least 12 gunmen and a little girl - as Israel pressed ahead with its offensive in the south alongside fighting in Lebanon. Abbas briefed the Jordanian monarch on his talks with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in the West Bank on Tuesday. Abdullah also ordered the state-run Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization to send a new aid convoy of 24 milk trucks to the Palestinian territories, Petra reported. The trucks are expected to start arriving on Thursday. Two Jordanian military planes - carrying a field hospital and medical aid to treat people wounded in Lebanon - landed at Beirut airport on Wednesday.
