MK Regev: Police behavior in Bar Noar case 'embarrassing'

Knesset Interior Committee chairwoman Miri Regev (Likud) slammed the police for their handling of the investigation into the 2009 murder of two people at the Bar Noar LGBT center in Tel Aviv.

Speaking at a meeting of the Interior Committee, Regev said that "the behavior of the police in the Bar Noar affair is embarrassing and the whole event has gone from scandal to festival."

She called on the police to lower its media profile after accidentally leaking the details of the case to the press earlier this month in violation of a court-ordered media blackout.

Regev said that the state's star witness in the case "escaped" on their watch and did not "leave" as police have claimed, charging them with "laundering words" to downplay their failure. She said that the witness should have been placed in the witness protection program immediately rather than stay under police supervision.
