Former Social Welfare Minister Zevulun Orlev said Saturday night that he was considering running for mayor of Jerusalem in the October 22 municipal election.
Orlev said the activists in the city had been trying to draft him to run. Bayit Yehudi's Jerusalem branch will decide on the party's candidates for mayor and city council Wednesday night. Orlev will not submit his candidacy but could be chosen anyway. "I have different life plans but there is pressure on me and I am listening and I am not indifferent," he said.
Jerusalem Development Authority head Moshe Leon is expected to announce following Tuesday's Tisha Be'av day of mourning that he will challenge Jerusalem mayor Nir Barkat as the candidate of Likud Beytenu. Candidates of the two parties will alternate on the joint list.
