Russia: Inter-Palestinian agreement significant
08/19/2006
Russia's Foreign Ministry said Saturday it was counting on Palestinian groups to hold to a promise to suspend attacks on Israel. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said Thursday that the Palestinian factions had agreed to halt attacks in hopes of ending a two-month IDF crackdown in the Gaza Strip. "In our opinion, such an inter-Palestinian agreement could have great significance for calming the situation," Foreign Ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin said in a statement. "We are counting on the Palestinian organizations and groups making such a needed choice in the interest of refusing violence and resolving the existing problems with Israel at the negotiating table."
