Two bombs found on Cairo metro 'fake'
Public transit halted as experts tried to diffuse fake bombs; had been found 100 metres from Helmeyet el-Zaytoun station.
Two suspected bombs allegedly planted on the tracks of the Cairo metro and briefly halted the public transit on Thursday turned out to be a hoax, AFP reported.

The devices "made to look like bombs contained no explosives," an official told AFP, adding that "they were fake."

Earlier on Thursday, Egyptian authorities grounded transit lines in the capital after the devices were found on the tracks in a Cairo station, security officials told AFP.

Bomb experts were reportedly dispatched to the scene.

Explosives experts attempted to defuse the bombs, the state news agency reported, causing a partial closure of the network.

The bombs had been found 100 metres (yards) from Helmeyet el-Zaytoun station in northeast Cairo.
