President Shimon Peres called on Tuesday for Israel and the Palestinians to reach a comprehensive peace deal, despite the remaining hurdles and dissatisfaction the two sides face.

"The Palestinians are not satisfied with us and we are not with them, but both sides together are not satisfied with terror and warfare," the president said in Sderot at the Negev Conference for economic development.

While stressing the urgent need to reach peace, Peres hailed the Israeli government alongside the United States for their efforts so-far in the ongoing negotiating process.

"We are luck to have our friendship with the United States -- it's not an embarrassment to say thank you to the US for its military and diplomatic support," he said.
