Panel against changing gov't structure
Greer Fay Cashman
The public committee charged with examining the government structure notified President Moshe Katsav on Tuesday of its recommendation to retain the current system for the time being. The 70-member committee, comprising prominent figures and experts and headed by Hebrew University president Menahem Magidor and Tel Aviv University president Itamar Rabinovich, was appointed last year by Katsav to take an in-depth look at regional and national elections, relations between local and federal authorities and government structure, and to recommend appropriate measures for improvement. The committee's recommendations, which are designed to strengthen and stabilize the government, will be published in a report to be presented to Katsav at the end of November.
