Obama sends greetings to Givat Haviva shared society conference
US President Barack Obama sent his regards to the Annual Shared Society Conference at Givat Haviva, which works to promote the coexistence of Jews and Arabs in Israel.

"When individuals of different origins and backgrounds transcend what sets them apart to come together in common purpose," Obama wrote, "they have the power to steer the course of history."

The conference, in its fourth year, is set to take place Tuesday under the  theme: "Implications of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict on Common Citizenship for Jews and Arabs in Israel."

It is rare that a US president sends an official greeting to a private Israeli organization.

Speaking of Givat Haviva, Obama said,  "A lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians is possible, and through forums like this, you are reaching toward a more just and sustainable future."
