A ceremony in memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks in the past year was held at the Les Invalides military monument in Paris on Monday.

Thousands of survivors, victims' families, officials and politicians attended the ceremony, alongside French President Francois Hollande.

The names of the 230 victims were read during the ceremony, whilst people laid flowers in front of a memorial statue.

"Today, France held its tribute to the 230 victims of the terrorist attacks since September 19, 2015. Wherever they came from, they should all be remembered," said Juliette Meadel, French Minister of State for Victim Assistance.

The date of September 19 is of particular importance to the people of France, as 54 French citizens lost their life in an terrorist attack on an airplane in 1989. The day came to be recognized as a memorial day for the victims of later terrorist attacks in 1998.

France has been hit by terrorist attacks in the last year, as 130 people were gunned down at the Bataclan concert hall in Paris and a truck attack on pedestrians left 86 dead in southern France's city of Nice.
