Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Wednesday that it was too early to talk about conducting talks with Syria. During a meeting with foreign correspondents in Jerusalem, the prime minister said that it was not enough for the Syrians to say they were ready for peace, but that they needed to stop transferring arms to Lebanon, smuggling terrorist to Iraq and destabilizing Lebanese rule. Olmert said that if there is a positive change on the Syrian side, Syrian President Bashar Assad will find Israel ready for negotiations and then Israel will demonstrate the compromises it is willing to make.
