Tensions have been high at the border since a rocket hit a home in central Israel on Monday.

Amid the clashes, six Palestinians have been reported injured by the Palestinian health ministry.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cut his trip short from the US in response to the attack. On Thursday he went to the Gaza border to assess the situation. Israel has gathered troops and tanks at the border and even called up limited reservists in the intelligence and air defense corps.

Right-wing Israeli politicians have claimed that only lack of political or diplomatic will has kept the IDF from rooting out Hamas in Gaza and destroying its cache of weapons and rockets.

New Right Party head and Education Minister Naftali Bennett called for the IDF “to open the gates of hell” against Hamas.

Tovah Lazaroff contributed to this report.
