Author Salman Rushdie receives knighthood

Indian-born author Salman Rushdie, who spent ten years under the Iranian fatwah for publication of his book The Satanic Verses, is to receive a knighthood by UK's Queen Elizabeth for his services to literature. Others on the Queen's Birthday Honors list include cricket player Ian Botham, singer Joe Cocker, Dame Edna Everage's creator Barry Humphries, UK's envoy to the United Nations and television reporter Christian Amanpour.
