Two Sudanese arrested trying to sneak into Israel
08/02/2007
Egyptian police arrested two Sudanese from the war-torn Darfur region on Thursday as they tried to illegally cross the border into Israel, seriously wounded one of them when he scuffled with police, an official said. One of the two men, 32-year-old al-Waleed Mohammed Ahmed, was halfway over the border fence when police approached them. He fought with police and was heavily injured with internal bleeding, said police Capt. Mohammed Badr. Egyptian border guards appear to have stepped up efforts to stop illegal migrants trying to cross its border in the Sinai Peninsula into Israel. The migrants often pay local Bedouin to help them in the passage.
