Police arrest driver smuggling gas canisters
JPost.com Staff

The security command of the Ministry of National Infrastructures ran an enforcement operation last week in the area of Barta'a, near Jenin, in the course of which they uncovered a moving van loaded with dozens of cooking gas canisters. The canisters were being transported illegally, flouting the safety regulations regarding transport of hazardous materials. If one of the canisters had exploded, it would have caused a chain reaction, detonating all of the canisters on the truck. One kilogram of cooking gas has the explosive power of two kilograms of TNT. Such an explosion could have caused extensive damage and casualties. The driver of the truck was arrested. He and his accomplices will soon be indicted.
