US soldier killed by enemy gunfire north of Baghdad, military says
A US soldier was killed Monday by enemy gunfire north of Baghdad, the military said. The military said the Task Force Lightning soldier died of wounds sustained in an attack in Salahuddin province, a volatile area in the Sunni heartland that includes former leader Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit. The brief death announcement did not give more details and the soldier's identity was withheld pending notification of relatives.
