Egypt opens Rafah terminal for a day for Egyptians stranded in Gaza
04/01/2008
The Rafah terminal on Egypt-Gaza border has been opened for a single day, says an Egyptian security official, to let around 350 Egyptians stuck in Gaza Strip for the past two months to return home. The official says that the stranded Egyptians had crossed into Gaza when Hamas blew up parts of the border wall in January letting hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to cross into Egypt to shop for food and commodities. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the press. The exceptional opening of the crossing Tuesday appeared to be a result of series of negotiations between Egypt and Hamas.
