In the musical and performing arts, it is very difficult to make your mark and get recognition for a lifetime. There are a lot of artists who possess the infinite potential to rise in the industry, but very few keep at it long enough to reach their potential. The artists that do make their mark posses undeterred drive and passion for their art and career. They make sure to always put their best foot forward and offer something different to people through their music, which can help them stand apart from other players in the industry.

In the ever-evolving music industry, music performers and producers must give content that is relatable and unique. But that shouldn’t be the only motivation for them to create it, as there are better ways to channel the passion for music and attain success. Harrison Wain, more famously known as BOXBOY, proved his musical passion when he astounded people with his singles and his prowess in making rock, trap music and alternative indie music. From being a video creator and attaining massive success in the same to becoming the young Australian musician he is today, reaching over 500k on two of his singles, BOXBOY indeed has come a long way, achieving all of this at only 21 years.

BOXBOY kindly agreed to lay out a few ways that can help other musicians and creators stand out and create their unique artist identity.

  • Know Yourself: To be in sync with the world, you must be in sync with yourself – this is true for all musical artists. Musicians must have a high sense of clarity as to who they are and what they want. This helps the artist have a better understanding of his/her art and what could be done to enhance it. Being authentic is what makes the performers stand out in the dense competition of the music world. True artists who have a deep-rooted belief and identity do not focus on becoming as famous or as revered as the big names of the music world; they only focus on themselves, their music and their craft. They create music because they love what they do, formulating their own perspective of their world, eventually extracting what can be called their unique artist identity.

  • Remember your roots: Knowing and understanding why you do, what you do, is an extremely important way to rise as an artist. For a musician, the goal must not be to connect with the audience but to connect with those who believe what the artist believes. For this, one must remember their roots, why they started this journey as an artist, what compelled them to create a particular art in a particular way, etc.; all of this should be understood by the artist to stand apart. BOXBOY mentions that many times, musicians take inspiration from the journey of other artists; while there is nothing wrong in doing that, he also suggests people to first take inspiration from their own life experiences, their struggles, the hurdles they faced and the way the overcame all of that. This inspiration will help them stay constant on their path and also help them remember who they are from within.

  • Consistency & Constancy: Becoming an artist is a tough task, but doing it again and again and continuously creating the momentum around what one makes is an even tougher job. To achieve the glory of a musical artist, one needs to practice their art with the same vigour, passion, and determination to do it on a consistent and constant basis, the way they had begun at the initial stage of their career. Artists often get too overwhelmed with the early success they earn; however, BOXBOY says that they must never take these successes too seriously and always strive to attain excellence in their craft by focusing on being consistent in their efforts and hard work, taking each day as it comes and challenging themselves to better their musical craft as a whole.

Harrison Wain, aka the BOXBOY, had seen tremendous success while he worked as a video creator, but realizing that music was where his heart was hooked to, he courageously took the decision to make that transition from social media to music. He understood his roots and himself and pursued his dream with effective consistency and constancy. The talented young boy from Sydney, Australia, radiates his brilliance as a musical singer, performer, and creator. BOXBOY has made over 250 songs in rock, trap music, and alternative indie music and is gearing up for many more.
