Israel’s Champion Lady golfer, Laetitia Beck, who will soon begin her sophomore year at Duke University where she is a member of the Blue Devils Women’s golf team, has successfully qualified to participate in the 2011 LPGA CN Canadian Women’s Championship in Montreal, Canada.
In order to gain exemption Beck had to compete in an 18 holes qualifier on Monday against 45 golfers (28 professionals and 17 amateurs), all competing for four exemptions to the main tournament.
Beck finished at one-under par 71, a round that included three birdies, 13 pars and a pair of bogeys. That score was good enough for a four-way tie for first place, and for the first time in her career the 19- year-old Israeli will participate as an amateur in a toptier tournament.
At the Hillsdale Golf and Country Club, Beck will join a world-class field featuring the top 50 players on the current LPGA Official Money List, including defending champion Michelle Wie, world no. 1 Yani Tseng, Suzann Pettersen, Cristie Kerr and Jiyai Shin.
In all, 97 of the top 100 professional players on current LPGA Official Money List will challenge for Canada’s National Women’s Open crown.
Wie, Tseng, Kerr, Pettersen and Shin headline a stellar cast that also includes fellow LPGA Tour stars Paula Creamer, Ai Miyazato, Morgan Pressel, Christina Kim, Natalie Gulbis, Britanny Lincicome, Stacy Lewis, Se Ri Pak, Karrie Webb and 16-year old sensation Alexis Thompson all challenging for the US$2.25 million purse.
