Bnei Hasharon and Maccabi Rishon Lezion moved back into the top-four in the BSL standings on Sunday night, continuing their recent winning form against two of the league’s strugglers.
Bnei Hasharon handed Barak Netanya its fourth defeat in its last five league games, claiming a dominating 88-66 victory in Herzliya, while Rishon won for the fifth time in its last six contests, edging Maccabi Ashdod 80-76.
On Monday, Maccabi Tel Aviv welcomes Hapoel Holon, with Ironi Ashkelon visiting Hapoel Jerusalem at Malha Arena.
In Herzliya, it was Netanya which took a surprise lead at the beginning of the encounter, with Adrian Banks giving the visitors a 16-15 advantage with just under two minutes to play in the first frame.
However, Bnei Hasharon would answer back with a 17- 0 run, capped by a Filiberto Rivera three-pointer, and cruised throughout the second half after taking a 44-26 margin into the break.
Shawn James had 17 points and 12 rebounds for Bnei Hasharon, which has won six of seven games.
Banks scored 22 points for Netanya, which continues to hold onto the eighth and final playoff berth.
In Rishon, the visitors got off to the better start, opening an early seven-point margin (17- 10). However, Rishon came right back and Ashdod led by just a single point (22-21) after 10 minutes.
There would be little to separate the teams after that, with the hosts leading 45-43 at the break and 63-61 with 10 minutes to play.
Ashdod would regain the lead midway through the fourth quarter and with two minutes to play the score was tied at 76.
However, the visitors failed to score from that point on, and Rishon clinched the win from the free-throw line.
Nitzan Hanochi led Rishon with 19 points, with Meir Tapiro scoring 24 points for Ashdod, which has lost six straight.
