Israel's national team players are expected to begin their on-court preparations for September's EuroBasket tournament on Monday after boycotting the first training session of the summer on Sunday, citing insurance reasons.
The players were unhappy with the insurance policy provided by the Israel Basketball Association and refused to train until they were provided with a complete understanding of the specific policy taken out for them.
However, it now seems as though the dispute will be resolved and the players will begin practicing on Monday after the IBA presented the players representatives with more details regarding their coverage.
"We have been given the policies and I hope this will all be behind us by Monday," players union chairman Nir Alon said.
"We want to train and play, and I hope that this will be over as soon as possible."
The national team faces Croatia on September 7 in Poznan, Poland, in its European Championship opener and plays Macedonia a day later, before wrapping up its Group A games with a showdown against Greece.
Earlier Sunday, IBA chairman Shay Shani attacked the players, claiming they have been insured with the exact same policy as last year.
"The IBA has done its best to give the players the best policy possible," Shani said. "The players have crossed a red line. We will not ignore this."
National team coach Tzvika Sherf believes the team will suffer most from the dispute between the IBA and the players.
"Every postponement hurts the team and I urge everyone not to throw the baby with the [bath]water," Sherf said.
