Flag Football: Armitron leads AFI heading into final week of first round

As the Moshiko AFI league gets set to wrap up the first round of its regular season, Armitron took over the top spot in the standings by defeating Yaakov Kruger's team 12-0 and 13-7 in their doubleheader on Friday, December 14, at Kraft Family Stadium in Jerusalem. Armitron improved its record to 12 wins, one loss and one tie, while Yaakov Kruger's squad dropped to two wins and 10 losses. Stevie's Boyz remained the only undefeated team in American Football in Israel's men's contact flag football league by beating Jerusalem Sports Medicine Institute 20-6 and 19-18 on Saturday night. Stevie's Boyz (12 wins, zero losses) and Wizard World (11 wins, one loss), which had a bye this past weekend, are the only two teams in the top 15 that have not played all 14 of their first-round games. Both teams have a shot at finishing the first round in the top spot. Stevie's Boyz controls its own destiny; a win and at least a tie in its doubleheader against Jump Gym on Saturday night, December 22, clinches first place. If Wizard World defeats Moshiko in both games of their doubleheader on Friday, December 21, and Stevie's Boyz loses its two games, Wizard World will finish the first round in the top spot. After the first round, the top 32 teams - out of a league-record 59 squads - will be split into eight groups of four for a round-robin stage, which will be followed by single-elimination playoffs. The remaining 27 teams will also play three games in the second round.
